There’s no mistaking our Nellie for a girl. She is very pretty and light on her feet. I think she reflects more of the American lines in her pedigree as her mom , Katie is more English in type.

Nellie is a go all day golden and smart as a whip. Her goal is to beat the other golden’s here to the ball, frisbee, bumper or bird. She also out swims the other dogs in the water!

As fast as she is on her feet, she is equally driven to love and please us. I am not saying she is hyper, because she is not. I believe a golden of her drive is normal to the breed but we live such busy lives today, a golden with that much spirit is often misunderstood. She was born to a task and follows thru. When I’ve looked to breed Nell, I have always looked into the stud’s personality as I would not want to double up on her go-get ‘em spirit. And this has worked out well.

One of my fondest memories when I think back on Nelllie’s life was an experience we had while visiting Rachel Page Elliott on her farm River Rd in Carlisle. Page and I were walking her property as Nellie encountered her first horse in the pasture ahead. Nellie calmly approached the horse and they sniffed each other’s nose. I was a bit nervous as I wasn’t sure how she would react. After the meeting, Nellie jumped a low stone wall into the adjoining field and chased after some bird ahead. Just then Page took hold of my upper arm and I turned thinking she might need my support from a fall, to my surprise Page looked into my eyes and announced that Nellie took her breath away! Rachel Page Elliot was in aw of my girls’ movement…Standing with the author of Dogsteps. I will never forget that day and the very good feeling those words gave me.

Nellie loved attention and loved to be babied. She would melt for sweet talk. Her puppies have all been a big hit in each home placed. I personally have raised 3 to young adults. All like their mom, clever and a pleasure to be with. In 2003 Nellie retired from breeding and had been long before prearranged for our sweet girl to go live with the Hamilton family who owned her daughter Addey and who had always admired our Nellie. That year we lost our most senior goldens Paddington and later our Katie. I found out I needed surgery and felt it best to re-home Nellie where she could get the attention she required and deserved. She (like her Mom Katie were) eternal puppies and though she was no longer of breeding age, she was neither ready for the old folks home! Nellie is and remains a very smart and busy golden gal. She keeps her daughter company and they play so very well and are great companions for the Hamilton family. Thank you Nancy, for picking up where I left off and then some...Nellie produced some of our special puppies in loving homes throughout New England. Nellie lived a very full and charmed life of 14 years. Along with the Hamilton family and my own she is very missed.
