Hi Steffi,
I could not wait to come home today.... to tell you that Jamie passed
the AKC Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) and Therapy Dogs International
(TDI)!!! How exciting is that??? I am so thrilled for him (us I
should say :) I am beyond proud of him!! I knew pretty early on
that he was a special dog.... My trainer said he has 'kind soul'!!So
sweet!! Many people commented on how mellow and beautiful he is...
Everyone was asking where I got him...
I am looking forward volunteering with Jamie.
I also have to mention that Josie is a walking advertisement for you.
Again the compliments and comments on her, how pretty and sweet and
where did I get her. : ) ... she is such a snuggle bug...
Well, Steffi, I again will thank you for breeding the most amazing dogs
I have ever known and have the privilege to own!!
It is beyond words what these dogs have brought into our lives. How
heartfelt to know the joy that they will bring t o others. (I plan on
testing Josie when she is older)
Thanks
Susan

Steffi Mullins raises each puppy as if she was keeping them for her
own. After the whelping, she kept us filled in weekly
through photos, emails, and videos about the puppies' progress. She
gets to know their unique personalities, and makes the best match
possible between puppy and owner. My puppy Dempsey has been an absolute joy since I brought him home. He acclimated immediately to NYC, with the loud sounds, sights and smells!
Housebreaking has been a breeze from the start as well, he understood
he was to only go outside. Everyone comments on how mellow Dempsey is, whether he's greeting young children or groups of people in the neighborhood. Dempsey is happy
whether we're walking in the city, playing in central park, or in the apartment with his toys, he is very content. Marithyme's outstanding health practices are evident, as Dempsey is the
picture of a healthy puppy. I absolutely recommend Marithyme Goldens and Steffi Mullins.

We just love Britain. She has a beautiful coat and the best dark brown puppy eyes. She has a great temperament. She plays well with our first Marithyme dog, Sailor, and our children. She is also great with young children. We have been using Janet Harris in Sherborn as a trainer and she said that "Brit is brilliant"! She is a very fast learner and aims to please. We couldn't be happier.
Our experience with Marithyme Goldens has always been positive. Britain is our second dog from Marithyme so that says a lot right there! Steffi is wonderful to work with she has lots of helpful information and she breeds wonderful dogs!

Dear Steffi
July,2 2000
I am not sure whether you will remember me, I am Lizzie R’s father, and I met you several times while we were visiting you for a puppy from Sailor-girl’s litter. We went home with Ms. Purple (now "Maple")of the Dr Suess theme. I know Lizzie has been in touch with you, but I wanted to drop you a line myself.
Our family does not have experience owning dogs. Maple is our first, and she really is Lizzie’s dog, although because Lizzie has been living home and here at Martha's Vineyard with us, she certainly feels like a family dog. She is, as we knew when she was selected, a spirited, high personality dog. That requires a bit of extra commitment to training, but well worth it. She is, in every sense, a member of our family! If she could talk, she would probably tell us all that she is the most important member of the family! However, while she is spirited, she does not have an aggressive bone in her body. She has a lovely personality.
When Marion & Lizzie first visited you, they were very impressed with your approach to breeding and caring for the dogs. I think I was most impressed with your adult dogs, who were all quite expressive of their respective personalities. I have been around dogs most of my life but never had one, first because my mother disliked them and then as I got married at twenty nine years old and Carol has a similar disdain for them. So, it was no surprise that I was very excited about and becoming attached to Maple. However, Carol has not only become tremendously attached to Maple, she has become far more knowledgeable about dogs and has a totally new attitude towards them. She seems to becoming part of the dog owners “fraternity”, stopping on the street to talk to people about their dogs, and talking to everyone, she knows about Maple. The metamorphosis is stunning to the rest of our family, especially my 84 year old mother-in-law who is not going to change her negative view at this point and thinks her daughter has lost her mind!
Maple is swimming like she was born in the ocean, and is otherwise exhibiting the signs of a normal healthy seven month old puppy. She gets lots of exercise and loves to retrieve. (That’s a surprise!) I think she has more toys than my kids did when they were young, but they get rotated so that she gleefully receives an old favorite toy after not seeing it for a few days. She is quite a pleasure.
This dog is everything that we had hoped and expected her to be. Clearly, she was well bred and well cared for. Based upon my limited exposure to Katie, I think your suggestion—that she is very much like Katie—is probably correct. I can see why people succumb to the idea of breeding their dogs, when they love them so much, but Maple is scheduled to be spayed in a few months.
I wanted to let you know how Maple was doing from the perspective of Lizzie’s father. I am on vacation for the summer, so I get to be with the dog all the time, and it is a pleasure. I also want to ask you to let us know if, sometime in the future, you are planning to breed your dogs again, as Carol and I might very well like to sign up early for a pup from such litter. I believe that Lizzie plans to move back to the Boston area after finishing law school, and the two dogs could be buddies.
Thank you for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.

PART II
Dear Steffi, 8/31/2006
How are you? Maple is wonderful! How have you been? How is your family? How are Sailor and Nellie?
Maple is the greatest. She is the same lovely dog that you said she would be when she was just a few weeks old: she is a spirited, smart, fun-loving dog who will not hesitate to bop me with the ball if she wants to play! I remember when you said she would be a lot like Katie, and I am so glad that she is. She loves to play ball, inside or outside, and there isn't much in the world that she loves more than swimming (although snow is up there and she loves to hike in the woods). She has been doing lots of swimming lately.
She is in great health. She is very energetic and gets lots of exercise. I check her levels rather than automatically vaccinating her, and she hasn't needed parvo or distemper vaccine in a couple of years.
Meeting you changed my life! I can't imagine a more wonderful dog than Maple. I feel so lucky. I can't tell you how much I love her.
I've been meaning to email you -- thank you for emailing me.
I'm not on my home computer now, but I will send you pictures from home. She's great about posing for pictures.
Warmly,
Lizzie

Marithyme Mulberry Street (1/1/2000-)
I am proud to have “Bryan”, Pirate Jargon litter. He is my third golden. In this country goldens average life span is 8 years. After loosing my beloved Patrick, I found out that his entire line never lived beyond 9 years. He was 14! I attribute it to a home made diet and the minimum of vaccinations and treated homeopathically. He was treated with conventional medicine until he was three. Then I studied homeopathy and my life changed, so did his. All of his litter mates (17 of them), and parents (Mom at 3, and Dad at 7) died of cancer. Patrick succumbed to a brain tumor.
So when I started looking for a new companion my list was as follows: Look at the longevity of the line, what are they bred for looks or looks and smarts, what health checks have been done (without cheating), what are the dogs and litter fed, and of course what is the vaccination history of folks and pups.
Steff has a lot of information on health issues, and a lot of good food for thought. She is not stuck in the past ("We have always done it this way!"). If she hears of new studies that challenges old ideas then she studies it. (Like early spay/neuter. There are studies that show that earlier is not better.)
Bryan's 3/4 of a line of goldens in the UK that I was looking at for the above mentioned reasons. (Many of her dogs have lived to be 16 to 18). I would have gone to England and meet with these lovely people if needed. I was not fond of getting a pup from abroad. (Another essay, there.)
I have not been disappointed with my decision to have Bryan in my life. He is bright, funny, sensitive, and as everyone has said SOOOO SWEET!
I encourage you to ask questions, look at other breeders and see if they walk the walk and not just the talk. Talk with your vet. Much of what Steff says is not new, just not in the main stream.
Best of all enjoy learning, and looking.

Hi Steffi
I'm sorry I didn't reply to your e-mail about Dagan earlier. I have been without the Internet for the past month. I was supposed to pass papers on my new house a few days after I picked up dagan. I just passed papers a few weeks ago.Dagan has been doing wonderful.Dagan is everything I was looking for in a dog, and much more than I could have ever expected. You matched us perfectly. His size and color was exactly what I was looking for. He is your average happy, playful, loveable puppy, and is very spoiled.Dagan attends doggie daycare 2 or 3 times a week. He has been going since he was 10 or 12 weeks, he loves it. He completed doggie kindergarten around the middle of August. I will start up with the next portion of his training in a few weeks, giving us a little more time to settle into our new house. I decided not to go with the classes, but with a personal trainer. she is a vet tech in his vets office and has been wonderful. I believe that Dagan and myself learned more from her, than we would have in the classes. There was more personal attention and one on one interaction. It was just the best fit for everyone.Dagan recently went on vacation. My girlfriend and I found a bed and breakfast in Chocoura, NH that caters to dog owners and their dogs. The dogs are allowed to stay in the rooms with you. Doggie daycare was provided during the day.Dagan was treated like a king, and had a great time, and we will be going back in October. He is adjusting well to the new house. attached are some of my favorite pictures of him. I hope that you enjoy them.

MARITHYME SIR HENRY MORGAN (2/3/2006-)
"Happy" is the fifth Golden Retriever we have owned and she is far and
away the most loving and obedient golden we have had. We were really
impressed that Steffi cared so much about who WE were before she agreed
to sell us one of her pups. The amount of loving care these puppies get
in their first seven weeks obviously makes a HUGE difference in how
well socialized they are. Happy wanted to learn all we were willing to
teach her.
At nine, Happy could be called our town mascot as everyone knows her
and loves meeting her on our walks. All attribute her wonderful looks
(she has an incredibly gorgeous, thick coat) and great behavior to our
care. We let them know that, if she hadn't had such a stellar first
seven weeks, she would never be the friendly well-mannered dog she is
today! If we ever decide to have another golden, we know where we will
go......even if it means driving across country to get her!

Our dog is "Rock", a part of the Star Wars litter, born in 1997. I met his mother Katie and instantly fell in love with her, so when her litter was born we were very excited. Rocky has turned out to be an exceptional dog. Many people have commented on his gentle nature, and several of our friends have since tried to get "Rocky dogs" for themselves. He has been very healthy except for some scrapes and minor problems. He is as sweet today as ever, is walked off leash even in the city, carries around a stuffed manatee and offers it to everyone he meets. He is a beautiful dog; we are always getting compliments on his looks. He is very much a part of our family. Steffi Mullins was a great resource, and we followed all her advice about how to train, raise, feed, and care for him. We are lucky to have had such a good breeder.

Up-date. Rocky was lost to cancer which started in his right rear leg. His family did all that could be done for him but it was soon time to let him go.
Toni shared with me that in the past year he was working along side her as a therapy dog bringing love and licks and many smiles to all the patients he visited. She told me he touched many hearts. He will remain in ours.

Marithyme's Gambit (8/27/2001-)
I own Marithyme Molten Gold "Cadell" of the Hot Theme litter. He was first known as Mr. Green, and before that a big desire of my heart that took nearly a year of research to find. Even before convincing my husband I wanted a dog, I began to do this research to learn about the type of dog breed I wanted. We had already owned a Beagle, and then a Siberian Husky. The Beagle was brought from a pet store recommended breeder, i.e. a puppy mill. He had lots of problems and lived to the ripe young age of seven. Our Siberian was purchased from a newspaper solicitation. He had less problems, but was far - very far - from the breed standard, and lived until twelve years old. We had to put him down because he bit our daughter when she was three - both were at fault for the bite, but we of course could take no more chances with the dog.
These facts are what brought me to the Golden Retriever breed, and ultimately Marithyme Golden's. I had chosen a Golden for our next dog, needing one tolerant of children and not known to be so high-strung they consider biting a first line of defense; with Golden's that is their last thought. Then, doing my research about the breed, I learned of the many breeding problems often inherent in Golden's... especially if you buy from a careless breeder such as a pet store or a newspaper. I certainly didn't want a $5,000 hip replacement bill because I brought a dog for less money or an unscrupulous or uneducated breeder, often found through the pet store or newspaper.
This knowledge led me to searching the Internet and making phone calls, and this ultimately led me to Marithyme Golden's. I wanted a breeder recommended by the Golden Retriever Club, and I wanted a breeder that cared deeply about offering 'sound' puppies, through 'parents' that were certified clear of the several genetic and interbreeding problems inherent to the Golden breed. Marithyme Golden's breeder, Steffi Mullins met that criterion and more. She doesn't just say she cares, she offers sound 'parents' with those guarantees, and shares her knowledge of many years experience with you concerning diet and vaccinations because she cares deeply about her dogs and the puppies she offers through them.
Yes, her application for a puppy may seem extreme, but look at it this way: it proves she cares about both the home her pups are going to, and what kind of high quality pup you receive. The application was, for me, the final proof that I found a caring and quality breeder for my Golden... and I have been proven correct. I confess, at first, I was bummed that I couldn't choose which pup I wanted, not understanding that each dog had a truly different personality. Now, I understand! Steffi knew I needed a laid back Golden, rather than one that was a 'on the go type', due to my health issues. How would I know a laid back pup in the five minutes I would spend picking one out? I couldn't, but being with them since birth, Steffi does. She picked me a winner!
My Cadell has been a wondrous joy to have in my home and around my daughter. He is smart, full of personality, and beautiful! There is no sign of any hip, elbow, knee, thyroid, heart or other such problems. He is up and ready to go when we are up and ready to go with him, but he is also a wonderful cuddle and couch potato when that is all we want to be. He is my best friend, my shadow - even when I go to the bathroom (because I like it that way), and he is the greatest to take to dog training classes. Just recently I have discovered my Cadell is a natural tracker, and I hope to begin trying him out on tracking and preparing him for competition.
I have never been so happy with a dog, and the versatility available to me, than I have been with my Marithyme Molten Gold Cadell. Steffi Mullins really knows what she is doing!

Hi Steffi,
We are well and Jessie is doing great! She’s gorgeous, sweet as can be, incredibly well behaved and universally loved by all who meet her. Because of her special qualities, we have become Pet Partners through the Delta Society and I brought her in to the hospital and the rehab center to visit patients when my dad had his hip replacement this past spring. She is particularly sweet with the elderly and little babies and toddlers. She adores swimming and I take her whenever I can. She has some special dog friends she plays with on a regular basis and gets lots of good exercise. I’ve maintained her on a BARF diet and she seems as healthy as can be. We often get comments on her beautiful coat and shinning white teeth. As you know, Jessie is our first dog and none of can believe just how much one can love their dog.
Glad to hear things are going well with you. It sounds like the Morning and Quill breeding was very successful. We’d love to have a relative but I don’t think we could handle 2.
Be well,
Susan

Steffi,
Scout (Egyptian Litter) is too much for words! I never could have believed that I could end up with such an amazing dog. He truly is everything you could ask for in a dog. He is very much a mama's boy....... he is so loyal, loves to be around other people and dogs and he is quite the cuddlier. Although I thought going away would be an issue, I actually have people begging to take him while I am away! The poor corgi's don't always get quite the invitation :) They can all attest to what a cuddlier he is....... he tends to like to sleep in-between two people and often times I have heard that one or the other ends up "spooning" with him. Even people who aren't crazy about dogs tend to love him. My boyfriends father has never been much of a dog person but not only does he completely enjoy Scout, he even invites him to his cape house (which is generally unheard of). I often find him wanting to take Scout outside with him or he just lets Scout sit at his feet while he watches TV or reads a book. Scout is also very fortunate to be very close to his brother Kody (Comic theme, my Dad owns him). They are best buddies and Kody is just as much a wonderful dog. He is the mascot at the Yacht club they belong too..... Often making his visits up and down the dock. Many times he is invited on board others boats! He is a very big hit when they have Senior Day and he gets to visit with all the elderly. Once again, I can't thank you enough for taking us into consideration when you placed your puppies. I could write on and on.... but I will leave it as we are extremely fortunate to be proud owners of such incredible goldens! I look forward to future breedings as I know Scout would love to have another brother to play with.
Congrats to you Steffi!!!!!!! It is not easy these days to come across such amazing dogs!
Love, Sara

Hi Steffi,
I am sorry not to have answered sooner, life is getting busier all the
time. Paco is still a joy. He is six already, but still looks like a
pup - people are guessing he's a two year old. He is a really sweet
dog - always in a good mood, always eager to please us. He wasn't too
sure about my youngest daughter when she was a baby, but has always
been very gentle with her, although he has yet to accept her as a fully
human member of the pack. Paco's best friend is our pug Tofu, who is 5
years old. They are inseparable, and quite a sight when they're
fooling around on the front lawn - great entertainment for the
neighborhood.
I will send new pictures in a few days (hopefully). Thanks for staying
in touch !

Hi Steff,
I was on your website this morning and noticed that you have
a bragging page from Marithyme owners and it inspired me to write a
little something about Allie - whether you choose to post it or not, it
is helpful to me to write it.
We adopted Allie ten years ago from your very first litter in MA. We
were immediately impressed by your obvious love of your dogs as well as
the thorough health checks, health history and care. When we came to
choose a puppy, I was nervous as this was to be my very first dog. I
spotted a big, quiet puppy and suggested him to my husband. We heard
some barking coming from a back room and my husband (Evan, a previous
dog owner) asked about it. It was your last girl, who was keeping an
already called for puppy company. You brought out Little Girl #4, and
we were hooked. You described her as the one who would find a hole in
the rug and then tell her fellow littermates "come here, come here, i
found a hole, come help me dig!" Two weeks later, when she was twelve
weeks old and twelve pounds, we came to get her. We named her Allie and
she came home to live with us in Boston. We immediately fell head over
heels in love with her and would joke that if we went out for dinner,
we couldn't wait to finish so that we could go home and play with her.
She was spirited and happy and so, so sweet.
She was a part of our family for ten years, through relocation to New
York along with our two children! The love we felt for Allie is indescribable and she was an integral part of our family. Everyone who met Allie fell in
love with her and commented that she was a special, different dog. She
was caring and sweet and fun and playful. She was amazing with our kids
and could often be found walking around with a stuffed animal stuffed
in her collar. She could always sense if someone was in a bad mood and
needed some extra love. And our favorite thing - she actually smiled
when she was happy. Our groomer, with whom Allie would stay when we
went on vacation commented, "If that dog had legs, she could drive a
car. She's not a dog, she's a person." Allie was and always will be
our girl. It's only been a week and a half, and we haven't stopped
crying, but we have so many wonderful memories of her which we will
always cherish.
I'm including some pictures of her so you can see how she grew. Thank
you for giving us the gift of ten years with Allie.
